The California Parity Law Makes Eating Disorder Treatment More Affordable & Accessible for You.
The Mental Health Parity Law was passed in California in July 2000 to ensure affordable and accessible treatment to those who suffer from bulimia nervosa and anorexia nervosa. The law requires that your health insurance plan or your disability insurance policy provide coverage for the diagnosis and medically necessary treatment of eating disorders. In essence, your insurance plan must provide equal benefits for the treatment of certain mental illnesses including eating disorders as it would for medical treatment.
The law requires that your health insurance plan cover inpatient and partial hospital services and intensive outpatient programs such as the Susan B. Krevoy Eating Disorder Program which meet at least 9 hours per week and have a self-help recovery-based component.
During the admissions process to the Susan B. Krevoy Eating Disorder program, your therapist will contact your insurance company to confirm your benefits. In the meantime, if you would like to learn more about the parity law, please refer to the following websites:

Can I still get treatment if I don't have insurance?
At the Susan B. Krevoy Eating Disorder Program, we believe that cost should not be a barrier to treatment for anyone who is struggling with an eating disorder. We offer treatment services to those who are uninsured on a sliding-scale, based on the client's ability to pay.
